Client: National Parks and Wildlife Service
BEC Consultants are working with Paddy Purser of Purser Tarlton Russell (PTR Ltd) and ecologist Faith Wilson on a project of ecological survey and restoration planning for the NPWS woodland properties in Co. Wicklow. The project will provide comprehensive and up-to-date information on the ecology, condition and conservation management requirements of NPWS-owned woodland properties in the county. These include the Nature Reserves at Vale of Clara, Glen of the Downs, Knocksink and Deputy’s Pass as well as Tommnafinnoge and Ballinagee Wood. Following this, long-term woodland management plans will be prepared for each of the woodland sites, setting out details of how favourable conservation status will be achieved at each site. For larger and more complex sites, such as Wicklow National Park, a long-term woodland management strategy which operates as a landscape scale is required and this will be prepared for the National Park. A similar strategy has previously been developed for Glenveagh National Park by BEC Consultants and PTR in conjunction with NPWS and this will form the template for the strategy.
